Always Late

Good morning and happy Monday my faithful blog readers!

It is the week before exam week. *Cue scary organ music here* We have reached the dreaded time of the semester when your pile of homework is high and your motivation is lacking.

On top of it all, it’s Monday, the weekly reminder that you did not do half of the things you promised yourself you would accomplish this weekend.

Take comfort in that fact that you are not alone, because this girl is right there with you. I have 99 problems and homework is all of them.

Although I am swimming in a sea of papers, projects, and take home exams (why professors why), I am trying to keep in mind that days like these are numbered.

Um hello isn’t that a good thing?

Yes and no. As a senior in college, coming to the end of my first semester, every college experience is starting to feel like it is something to be treasured and that includes exam week…I think.

Never in my life am I going to live the same way that I do now. Never will I be surrounded by so many people my age. Never will I be up late with friends pretending to finish homework. Never will it be acceptable to live on 3 pairs of socks (hopefully). Never will I be able to use my student ID to get crazy discounts at restaurants and stores.

Okay that last one was a lie. I am definitely still going to do that for as long as I can.

My point is simply that even though this week is making me choose between sleeping and showering, I would not want to trade it for anything. These past three and a half years have not always been a cake walk, but they have been formative and telling, teaching me lessons I never thought I would have to learn.

The older I get, the bigger the pressure to “figure life out.” What are you going to do? Who are you going to marry? Are you going to get married? Where are you going to live? Who are you going to stay friends with? Each question begetting more and more questions.

The frightening part of these questions is not their answers but that their answers require time. College provides a four year period to prepare you to take on these questions when it is time to leave which makes the leaving that much harder.

I am not naive enough to believe college lasts forever, but I am optimistic enough to believe that there are far better things ahead than anything we leave behind (despite the growing number of adults urging me to stay in school as long as I can).

Also you have probably noticed that my pictures this week look AMAZING. Not my doing people. It was all the work of Rachel Gabrielse Photography. She was kind enough to help me out with my pictures this week, and I think we can all agree she did a wonderful job. Honestly, check this girl out. She has talent.
