Comfort

Happy Friday everyone!

After the week that I had, it is a happy Friday indeed.

I will confess something to you all: most days this week, I did not feel like getting out of bed. Let alone getting ready for my day.

I know what you are thinking. How can she, of all people, possibly opt for gray sweats and slippers over midi dresses and stilettos? How can she continue to curate content for her blog when clothes have clearly taken a backseat? How can she advocate the power of dress when she does not practice what she preaches?

While all those critiques may be true, the only explanation I can offer is that every once in awhile, you have days where what you wear is the least of your concerns and that is okay.

Unfortunately, sometimes life leaves us feeling confused and overwhelmed, and clothes begin to lose a little significance.

Sometimes curling up in your bed in the oldest, comfiest thing you own is the kind of comfort you need.

Let me repeat: that is okay. Everyone needs a day or two.

But that is all you get.

One day or two days, take your pick. Life and responsibilities do not stop because you want them to.

Family, friends, obligations, and work need you. No amount of wine or cookie dough is going to change that.

Conquering all of that from your bed may seem near impossible. After all, you are warm, comfortable, and the next episode of New Girl is playing in 12 seconds.

That, my friend, is not real life. As lovely as comfortable may feel, you cannot take a personal day from life.

So put the Ben and Jerry’s back in the freezer, close your laptop, and trade those slippers for some stilettos. You will be amazed at the difference it makes.
