The Met Gala and Other Things I Wasn’t Invited To

Monday night icons of style and media gathered on the Upper East Side for Anna Wintour’s annual Met Gala. Dozens of celebrities visited the Upper East Side decked out in gorgeous gowns and tuxedos inspired by the event’s theme “Comme des Garcons” french for “like some boys.” The guest list ranged from Rihanna to Tom Brady with tickets starting at $30,000 per person.

What may come as a shock to most of you is that yours truly was not in attendance. What can I say? Anna and I haven’t made an acquaintance. At least, not yet. A girl can dream right?

Though sitting on my couch glass of wine in one hand with the other constantly refreshing Vogue.com felt a lot like the real thing, I have a feeling the actual event was much more exciting.

TBele, but this is not the only high profile fashion event I did not receive an invite for. The vast majority of New York Fashion week, an assortment of Beyonce’s dinner parties, and anywhere that Diane Von Furstenburg is at also top the list. Being in New York grants access to being aware of incredible events going on in the city but it does not grant you access to attending these events regardless of how many people are posting about it on their Instagram stories.

However, one of the best parts of New York is that because any one of these events could be happening at any given moment, walking around in a fancy dress anywhere at any time is considered acceptable. In New York, you can never be overdressed. Everyone simply assumes you have somewhere you need to be.

Hopefully someday I can make my way onto these exclusive lists, but for now, I’m alright with being all dressed up with nowhere to go.
