Over the Knee

It is November 13. We have reached the point in the year where days with temperatures over 50 are becoming fewer and farther between. It is officially late fall folks.

Unfortunately, this means face numbing cold every time you venture outside.

Fortunately, this also means LAYERS.

Say good bye to your denim shorts and your tank tops. Their time has officially come and gone. Cooler weather makes dressing for the day oh so much easier. Fall and winter are all about accessories. Adding a scarf and a vest to your outfit sends it from boring to adorable without losing any comfort.

With this great power comes great responsibility. Hats, gloves, scarves, boots can tie outfits together or make you look like a marshmallow. Adding them on is the easy part. Knowing when to leave one off is harder.

Styling is key in any successful look. The easiest way to do is to focus on one accessory, and let that be the main attraction. Every accessory should add to a look not distract from it. Too many add ons overpower the outfit and divert the eye from its main focus: you.

Take my outfit in this picture: Coat, dress, over the knee boots. My boots draw the eye, because they are taller than average. They are the standout piece in my outfit. Because they speak for themselves, there is no need to overpower it with scarves, bracelets, earrings or etc.

I am not advocating for one accessory per outfit. Accessorize your heart out, but remember to maintain an editing eye to keep an infinity scarf from ruining your look.
