Poppin Collab

I moved to NYC a little over a month ago with two suitcases, no job, and an empty apartment waiting for me. My Uber driver dropped me off in front of my Upper West Side apartment and helped me unload my bags. After struggling to get my large suitcases out of the trunk, he joked about how I had packed gold bricks. Looking at the price of my uber, I not so jokingly wished I had.

Ascending the steps to my two floor walk up (always count your blessings), suitcases in hand, I wondered, what could I have packed that is this heavy? Is it possible I unknowingly snuck some gold bricks into my suitcase for good measure?

dsc03198Not exactly, instead, it was my fall shoe collection, but in this writer’s eyes, those two equate to nearly the same thing.

So there I was, surrounded by shoes, sweaters, suitcases, and absolutely nothing else. My apartment’s emptiness made my closet sized bedroom feel much bigger than it really was. My next mission was to fill it.

Luckily, my roommate moved in a few days later, bringing with her a van exploding with Ikea furniture, scented candles, placemats and other new apartment necessities. Upon my request, she picked me up a desk. My parents ordered me a bed off Amazon.

Despite coming here with virtually nothing, I managed to collect a whole lot more of nothing in the coming weeks, and all that nothingness began to pile up on my desk. For those reading that don’t know me, I have a confession to make. I am not as organized as I should be. I have a knack for collecting items of unknown significance and holding onto them for much too long.

Call it hoarding, call it an overdose of sentimentality, whatever you call it, I have it. Somewhere in the tangled mess of my brain, old receipts, candy wrappers, wine corks, ticket stubs all seem like they could be important one day or just too special to throw away.

Don’t get me wrong. When it comes to work, I am incredibly organized, but to me, organization is just that: work. At my rate of collecting, my desk was looking less like a workplace and more like it had been taken off the set of one of those disturbingly interesting TLC shows.

How do other women do it? How do they have perfectly ordered desks and office spaces? Are they all that much more organized than me?

Turns out, some are, but the others are just smart shoppers. Enter Poppin, a home and office supply e-commerce site. Imagine that, a website devoted to making sure that your home office looks nothing like mine.

Of course there are a million organization products in the world, but what I love about Poppin is its simple design, the way that it looks on my desk, and the price tag. Whatever your aesthetic, Poppin takes the work out of organizing and puts the pretty back into planning.

Thanks to them I can finally get some work done at my desk without the work of organizing it.

All that and not a gold brick in sight.
