How to Wear: Mixed Prints

Putting together an outfit is some people’s least favorite thing to do. Personally, I can’t relate to this feeling, but I know that it exists. Are you one of these people? Let’s find out. If you have ever said to someone, “I love your outfit. I never would have thought to put those things together”, chances are putting your outfit together in the morning isn’t your favorite activity.

Never fear if you fall into this category. You are my inspiration for starting this section of my blog in the first place.

Getting ready is a hobby for me. I love throwing different pieces together in the morning, trying to come up with something unique from anything I have worn in the past. This task is much harder than it seems.

No matter how many clothes we have in our closet we always revert back to the same pieces. The super soft sweater or the blouse that you know makes your eyes pop basically throw themselves at you when you are getting dressed, making it almost impossible to think of a different outfit combo. Trust me I have been there.

I have discovered the best way to switch things up wardrobe wise is to start throwing a few pieces together, especially prints and patterns that you normally wouldn’t wear together. In these photos, I paired a color block sweater from Romwe along with a plaid dress from Lulus.

Not necessarily two things that I normally wore together, but I thought I would give it a try. After throwing both of the pieces together, I liked the vibe this look had. Causal, fun, but still different. I threw on my Adidas sneakers and decided to call it a look. Sometimes the best outfits are made out of the most unexpected combinations.

As far as fashion standards go, my outfit is not that off the wall. Things can get much crazier in Anneke’s closet let me tell you. However, mixing prints doesn’t start with Carrie Bradshaw level outfits. It starts with confidence in a few small leaps. Before you know it, polka dots, stripes, tie dye, you name it, you can wear it.
